Are you fighting Goliath? (Part 1)

Hello friends! Hope you all are enjoying the last few weeks of the summer season...fall is so quickly approaching!

Today I want to encourage you by referring to a Bible story that many of you may have heard when you were younger!  This will be a two part post, but I think it will be encouraging to us all! David and Goliath, what a story, right?! Now I will give you the short version of the first part of the story, but you can read it for yourself in 1 Samuel 17!  David, a little shepherd boy goes to visit (take food) to his brothers who were at war with the Philistines.  While there, he realizes that there is a giant man who is threatening the Israelites and disrespecting God.  Everyone is afraid of him...but not David.  David goes back to King Saul and tells him he can fight Goliath.  King Saul thinks David is crazy for wanting to fight him since Goliath is much bigger than David.  Goliath was probably at least 10 feet tall (Life Application Bible, KJV).  Goliath wasn't bigger than God and David knew it.  David knew that his God was greater than this giant.  So King Saul allowed David to go fight Goliath, and David took his sling and stones. So David went and Goliath thought David was a going to be a pushover; however, this is David and Goliath's conversation...you need to read this for yourself!
1 Samuel 17:42-47-
42 "And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands."

Wow! Pretty amazing faith that David had! Maybe you don't have faith in God or you have never trusted Him as your Saviour...please read below to find out how to get that settled today!

1. Realize that God loves you
John 3:16-"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
2. Realize that you are a sinner.  Sins are anything that you do that is wrong, examples are lying, lusting, being jealous, etc.
Romans 3:23- "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
3. Know that you are a lost sinner.  Realize that you need Jesus to get to Heaven.  Nothing you do is good enough.  Sin must be paid for, but Jesus paid the price for sin.
Romans 6:23- "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (You must accept that gift)
4. Believe that God sent Jesus, His Son, into the world, and believe that He died on a cross to take the punishment for your sins and then rose from the dead 3 days later.
Romans 5:8- "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Matthew 28:6-"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
5. Ask God to forgive you of your sins, and ask Him to enter into your life and save you.
Romans 10:9-10- "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Acts 2:21-"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
If you do that or have done that already, you are a child of God and you have begun your journey of following God's plan for your life.
